INFLUENTIAL WOMEN OF THE BIBLE
The following list of women are often overlooked as contributors and leaders in biblical days. Information was obtained from the 'Bible Almanac', and 'Who's Who In The Bible. This is a small list of our ancestral ladies. Have you given much thought as to whereyour linneage springs? Just maybe one of these ladies was your great (great, great, great, etc) grandmother.
Apphia___________ A christian lady who received a letter from
Paul. Ph 1:2
Deborah_________ One of Israels greatest judges. She was highly
regarded for her morals and wisdom. Deborah
was given direct instructions from God on
military leadership. Read, Judges 4 & 5.
She was also listed as a great prophet.
Esther___________ Through clever manuever, she was able to
save her Jewish people from slaughter and
instead saw the enemy wiped out. A book of
of the old testament is named for her and she
is remembered at the Feast Of Purim, an
important festival in the Jewish calendar.
Mary____________ Gabriel, the angel appeared to Mary and said:
God is with you and you are highly favoured
and being a virgin, you will bear the Son of
God. Why do we still strain to think God could
instill a pregnancy (he created man), when we
of medical science are able to perform all types
of feats regarding pregnancies?
Mary____________ Mother of Mark, she was reported to be a
woman of wealth, who also furnished the first
house for the Christians to hold services
and to house for visits. She had several
servants for the very large house. Although
not mentioned in the Bible, tradition holds the
concept that The Last Supper was held there.
Mary Magdalene__ A devoted follower of Christ. She was the first that
Christ appeared to after the resurection. No question
that she deeply loved and followed the Lord. A great
helped perpetuate the gispel after Christs ascension.
Phoebe_________ A deaconess in the church. At the end of Pauls
letter to the church in Rome, he asked that they
welcome her to their congregation. She was a
recognized assistant to Paul and a helper to
many people. He asked the Roman church to
treat his "sister" well, and give her any help she
might need.
Priscilla________ She probably shocked her wealthy family when
she chose to wed Aquila a former Jewish
slave. They became tentmakers, taking Paul
as a business partner. When Emperor
Claudius forced all Jews to leave Rome,
They took their business and gospel with them
to Ephesus and Corinth. As a resuly they
started three churches, Rome, Ephesus and
Corinth. Because Priscilla's name appears
more often in front of Aquila's, it is believed
she was the leader of the joint effort. For more
study, read: Acts 18, Romans 16, 1 Cor. 16,
2nd Timothy 4th chapter. She is also called
